What we mean when we say ‘Hand Crafted’ is just that. Made with one skilled pair of hands.

There are a lot of manufacturers claiming that their products are hand made or custom made when they really mean that their complete bikes are assembled by hand. Or the build kit is customised to what you chose out of the small choice that is being offered. That’s nothing special, everything is assembled by hand so what’s so special about a hand crafted frame?

You decide how it rides

The geometry of the frame, the tube diameter and wall thickness determine how the bike rides. Let us know exactly what you want from your next bike and we will build it around what you think is important.

It will fit like no stock bike can

If you are somewhere between a small and a medium or if you think the head tube is too big or too small on your current bike, you decide how its made. If you're a recreational rider, you will be more comfortable so you can ride faster for longer with less pain. You will feel better the next day and you will have seen more during your ride.

If you are a competitive rider or racer you will be more comfortable and efficient while racing. Forget weighing your bike for bragging rights, a handmade frame will deliver far more effeciency than an uncomfortable light bike that might not make it to the finish. You will have more energy at the end of the race and you will have less chance of injury.

Know that you can depend on it

No more cracking frames on rough roads. The yield strength of the latest Columbus tubesets are far greater than any carbon fibre. Columbus XCr is more than twice as strong as 3/2.5 Titanium and over 6x the strength of 7005 aluminium. Since every frame is made by hand, one at a time there are no bad batches or manufacturers faults. Our handmade frames are covered by a full 5 year warranty which includes competition.

Frame building is an artform

The passion and dedication that goes into producing your Velos Deluxe frame is very different to the production of the generic brands who’s product is mass produced by the lowest bidder with profit as the primary concern.

We build bikes for individuals. Our primary concern is your riding pleasure and efficiency.

Our ‘Hand Crafted’ frames begin with a free bikefitting session followed by a few changes to position or frame geometry to optimise biomechanical efficiency on your bike. Next step is to design your frame using Auto Cad. Whether you want a '29er' singlespeed or a Radonee bike, we make the design around what you want and we will keep changing it until you are completely satisfied.

Once we have finalised the plans, we will take a deposit of 10% before your plans make it to the workshop.

Then there is approximately 10 hours of measuring, mitring of tubes, tacking, welding and a lot of sanding. Your frame will then be moved to our painter or perhaps first to the chrome exchange depending entirely on you.

When it is ready it will return to our workshop and it will be assembled according to how you want it. We like to use Challenge handmade tyres for our high end bikes but the rest is up to you.

We also make custom wheels from Cerchi Ghisallo. These are wooden rims with your choice of hubs and spokes - hand crafted in Italy since 1940!

Wooden rims are not much lighter than aluminium rims but they give a fantastic ride and when descending a mountain they are safer than aluminium or carbon because the glue on your tubes won’t melt.

Ghisallo rims are ideal for cobblestone roads as they smooth out the shock and are almost impossible to break. We have yet to see one fail.
